Acadia National Cemetery is a United States military cemetery located in Hancock County, Maine. It covers an area of 47 acres and is located near the popular tourist destination of Acadia National Park.
The cemetery was established in 1883 and is the final resting place for over 6,300 veterans and their families. It serves as a burial ground for veterans from all branches of the military, including those who served in the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
The cemetery's entrance features a granite arch with the words "Acadia National Cemetery" carved into it, and a chapel is located in the center of the cemetery. Additionally, there are several memorials and monuments throughout the cemetery, including those dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients and the USS Thresher submarine disaster.
Maintained by the National Cemetery Administration, Acadia National Cemetery serves as a solemn and respectful place of remembrance for the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to their country.
